Held at the Gallagher Convention Centre from 11 to 13 June 2019, the 11th edition of the Pumps, Valves, and Pipes Exhibition was hosted jointly with the African Construction and Totally Concrete Expo, which provided an even bigger platform for visitors and exhibitors where a variety of brands and services were displayed.
According to African Construction & Totally Concrete Expo, the expo had more than 7 000 visitors over the three days. There were five supporting country partners from Germany, Greece, Italy, Russia and Turkey. There was an indoor and outdoor exhibition area available for different company brands, where they displayed their products and services. “The attendees had the opportunity to take home solutions from project owners, solution providers, manufacturers and thought leaders from the pump, valve and pipe sector.”
Ncoded Solutions attended the expo, where Managing Director Lance Zikalala completed a lecture on the topic: “Using an advanced planning & scheduling (APS) software tool as a replacement to materials requirements planning (MRP) within a valve manufacturing company”.
The purpose of the lecture was to ensure attendees understood how one of NCODED’s customers used APS technology as its cornerstone for procurement planning. This meant the customer had to make a bold move of discontinuing the use of MRP as its procurement planning platform. Needless to say, many departmental heads were initially unhappy with that decision.
According to African Construction & Totally Concrete Expo, the event organiser, there were more than 200 exhibitors across two massive halls, 44 participating countries, more than 35 interactive training workshops, and five supporting country partners.
What was also evident and perhaps worrying was that it seemed like there were fewer local manufacturers than international manufacturers when we visited the hall that housed the Pumps, Valves & Pipes sectors. However, the other hall, housing the construction sector, had many local manufacturers.
Ncoded Solutions networked with many attendees, discussing many issues facing manufacturing in RSA. Discussion issues ranged from politics to economics to product offerings to fourth industrial revolution, and so on.
Our overall impression of the PVP Expo was that it was well organised, and the leading exhibiting brands were well presented.
