Gendac (www.gendac.co.za), a South African software engineering company, has designed and developed a software solution for Absa as part of its security strategy of detecting and managing virus outbreaks.
Entitled the Dynamic File Distribution System, or DFDS (www.dfds.co.za), the solution was engineered primarily for the distribution and gathering of files - in this case, anti-virus updates - in large and distributed enterprise networks.
The roll-out of the DFDS has made it possible for Absa to reduce the specification for complete distribution time of anti-virus updates across the entire African network to a mere 4% of the original time. Operators in Absa`s Command Centre can monitor network health and virus outbreak status on a GIS map of Africa, enhancing even further their already quick response time to network threats.
Due to the modularity and easy configurability, the DFDS is also used to distribute and execute a large array of software updates among thousands of Absa`s computers and servers.
The DFDS has proven to be a valuable resource in security and information management at Absa. It was tested with anti-virus software suppliers F-Secure, Trend Micro and McAfee, but can be used for a multitude of vendors.
Detailed information on the DFDS product is available at www.dfds.co.za.
