Gendac launches claims brokering system at Glasfit

Johannesburg, 21 Aug 2003

Gendac (www.gendac.com), a company specialising in software engineering, has recently launched a custom designed and developed claims brokering system at Glasfit`s head office in Johannesburg. The claims brokering system known as GPS (Glasfit Processing System) is an interface between Glasfit and various insurance companies, allowing parties to track the status of claims while they are being processed.

Glasfit is a glass supply company specialising in services to the insurance market, vehicle fleet companies, panel shops and the public. Glasfit operates a nationwide network of fitment centres that serves as a one-stop centre for all glass and aluminium requirements.

Claims are entered into the GPS by Glasfit`s call centre operators while insurance companies and Glasfit fitment centres can access claims information in the GPS through Web pages. Claims in the GPS are authorised electronically by insurance companies, which allows for fast turn around time to clients as well as accurate reporting of claims data to Insurance companies.

GPS also supports an automated interface to the system. This interface makes it possible for GPS to integrate with the computerised claims systems used by insurance companies. This ability further benefits insurance companies because claim detail can be checked electronically, thus eliminating the need for recapturing data. The new GPS system forms part of Glasfits`s `One call fixes it all` strategy whereby a single point of contact is provided from where all glass-related queries can be handled.

Gendac implemented the GPS software on Microsoft`s .NET framework using C# and ASP.NET as development languages. The architecture is that of a distributed application and makes extensive use of technologies such as .NET Remoting, XML and SOAP. All information is kept in a Microsoft SQL server and is accessed using ADO.NET. Key features of the system include an extensible reporting architecture (using XML and XSL), a full accounting system (including a general ledger) and highly flexible business rules to cater for the needs of the insurance companies.

GPS currently processes claims from 142 fitment centres for 71 insurance companies and brokers.
