MultiChoice recently upgraded its capacity to cater for new technological advances in order to deliver the best offerings in terms of the content, quality and choice of viewing.
In preparation for this, MultiChoice acquired space on a second satellite, which started broadcasting during October 2016.
The new satellite enables MultiChoice to upgrade all content to HD, as well as adding new channels/content for viewing pleasure.
The only way to gain access to this great new content and quality is to upgrade the DSTV network, dish and head-end equipment.
Because multi-unit dwellings have limited conduit space for cables, the only real 'future-proof' option is to install fibre infrastructure.
The good news is that Comtel and MultiChoice have taken the position to subsidise the DSTV over fibre upgrades to minimise the financial impact on body corporates and HOAs.
Greg Cooper, Comtel Communications Chief of Operations, had this to say: "We're one of the first SIs in the country! It's a great to be part of a national solution.
"While we upgrade the DSTV infrastructure, Comtel installs an open access fibre network that includes ongoing SLA, maintenance and support, at no cost to the development.
"Everyone needs super-fast, reliable Internet services these days, and we all want a choice, so installing open access fibre networks was the only way to go."
Lightning-fast Internet capability and having a house that is 'fibre and DSTV ready' is becoming an important prerequisite for any developer, property owner and prospective tenant.
The added benefit to home owners is having a future-proofed fibre network that increases their property value by R50 000 (figures supplied by the FTTH Council).
Potential tenants and buyers, these days, are looking for units that are fibre and DSTV ready.
