Overcoming barriers to
gender transformation in ICT

Inspiring and moulding the technology leaders of tomorrow

28 September 2023 | Four Seasons Hotel The Westcliff

An ITWeb Executive Roundtable brought to you in partnership with OADC & WIOCC

Date: 28 September 2023

Time: 09:00 (GMT+2)

Duration: 3 hours

The shift towards a digital economy is unrelenting, with advancements and opportunities being created by the digital revolution at an unprecedented rate. Digital transformation has heralded a multitrillion-rand economy that has the potential to shift the socio-economic position of a country and its people by accelerating job creation and enterprise development; supporting access to public services, education and global resources; and increasing productivity and innovation.

Yet in Africa, a significant gender-based digital disparity exists, with women facing significant barriers to accessing and benefiting from the digital economy. According to the UN, sub-Saharan African women are 37% less likely than men to use the mobile internet – the greatest gender gap globally. Overall, men are 52% more likely to have access to the internet than women in the world’s least developed countries. Women are also under-represented in ICT jobs, top management and academic careers.

How do we ensure that women are leading the conversation when it comes to inclusivity, access and skills development in the technological sector and leveraging the opportunities that come with digital transformation?

Champions of gender equality and bridging the skills gap, WIOCC and Open Access Data Centres (OADC), in collaboration with ITWeb, present the enlightening event: “ Overcoming barriers to gender transformation in ICT Executive Roundtable. Here women will be at the centre of the gender disparity and skills development conversations. Leading decision-makers from the sector will be in conversation unpacking how effective cross-sector collaboration that prioritises skills and knowledge sharing can propel the inclusion of women in the digital economy.

Knowing that 85% of jobs in 2030 don’t exist yet and will derive from new technologies, now more than ever, the industry must rise to the occasion and invest in digital skills, learnership and mentorship programmes, to seize every opportunity to bridge the digital and gender divide.

Join us at this ICT Executive Roundtable not only as an attendee, but as a partner and agent of change in creating a seat at the table for the women of today, and also tomorrow.

When you educate a woman, you educate and change a nation.

Why should you attend?

Unpack how digital transformation can positively impact the socio-economic and gender divide.
