New technologies are emerging, extending the impact of digitisation in new and unexpected ways, thus heralding the fourth industrial revolution (4IR) that has permeated our lives in more ways than we care to think about.
“Personal privacy may well be a thing of the past, unless organisations implement privacy controls that are customer-centric,” says Zaheera Ahmed, group head of Data Privacy at Absa.
Ahmed will be presenting on ‘Privacy in the 4IR’, at ITWeb Governance, Risk and Compliance 2020, to be held on 25 and 26 February, at The Forum in Bryanston.
She describes privacy as the empowered act of setting boundaries, which allows end-users to determine who can access what data about them, where, when and for what purpose.
“In the digital era, organisations need to incorporate transparent privacy policies into the building blocks in order to actively empower their customers.”
According to Ahmed, establishing customer and employee trust is one way to protect an organisation during an economic downturn.
"I'll demonstrate how processing personal data responsibly will win over your customers, employees and even your shareholders to continue hustling in a difficult economy.”
She will discuss improving visibility of customer data privacy, implementing transparent and secure mechanisms and, finally, how to prioritise data privacy from the beginning of the transformation journey.
