Dr Peter Tobin is a highly experienced facilitator and consultant, having delivered over 200 workshops and conference presentations in over a dozen countries since 1994. He has developed his knowledge, skills and experience through over 37 years of business activity across a wide range of industries and through his work in a dozen countries across Africa and Europe. He was a part-time consultant for 18 years and, during that time, was also an academic at three of SA’s leading business schools. He is now a full-time consultant, with a particular interest in data privacy and protection, and IT governance and management. Dr Tobin’s work has been funded by the World Bank, European Union and United Nations, and he has a wide range of clients in JSE-listed and private companies, not-for-profit organisations and state-owned entities across SA.

European Data Protection Board (EDPB) update: implications for South African business

The EU GDPR represents an area of fast evolving regulatory impact on businesses around the world, due to the global territorial reach of the GDPR. Constantly evolving guidance and best practice advice is being generated by the European Data Protection Board (EDPB), which "is an independent European body, which contributes to the consistent application of data protection rules throughout the European Union, and promotes co-operation between the EU's data protection authorities" (www.edpb.europa.eu ). This session will share the latest updates from the EDPB and help organisations in SA to decide what actions to take to best comply with the GDPR.
