Unisys Corporation today announced that it has signed a five-year service management contract with British Telecommunications (BT), estimated to be worth over $200 million. Unisys is working with BT Business Systems to design, supply and install cabling infrastructure for BT and its customers that will provide the speed and service reliability that today`s customers demand in communications networks.
The Unisys service brings together consultancy, network design and supply chain management, together with project management of high-volume, multi-site rollouts. Unisys will install more than 15,000 miles of cable and 700,000 sockets in over 7,500 customer sites during the first 12 months alone.
The BT partnership with Unisys is an integral part of the widening scope of the BT portfolio to provide its customers with a single source of integrated voice and data cabling services.
The Unisys service provides a simple but rapid buying process for sophisticated voice and data cabling solutions -- two weeks from order to installation is the norm -- encompassing order processing, procurement, design, logistics and installation of cabling. As part of its support Unisys has also set up sales and customer support help desk services.
Craig Rowland, General Manager, BT Business Systems said: "The BT brand image for quality is very important to us. We chose to renew our partnership with Unisys because of their ongoing commitment to deliver the required quality of service expected from BT, and their expertise in providing complex service management solutions in a way that supports the maintenance of the BT brand image. The ability to deliver secure, stable, high quality services to our customers is fundamental to maintaining ongoing customer satisfaction."
This contract extends for a further five years an original agreement, endorsing the strength of the ongoing relationship between BT and Unisys. Before renewing the contract, BT and Unisys commissioned an independent survey to poll customer satisfaction on the existing service delivery relating to structured cabling services. The results of this poll have contributed to the contract renewal and will be a basis for further developing the BT/Unisys service proposition.
Commenting on the partnership, Joseph Walton, vice president, Unisys Global Customer Services, Europe said, "We are delighted to be further developing our relationship with BT. This renewed partnership will enable BT to continue to be flexible and responsive to market needs and enable BT customers to respond to the challenges of constantly evolving technology."
