Zensar Technologies, a leading digital solutions and technology services company that specialises in partnering with global organisations across industries on their digital transformation journey, announced the successful completion of yet another batch of South Africa ICT students and their placement across customer projects.
This initiative is the outcome of its Graduate Training & Learnership Program (GTP) that Zensar launched in 2009, in line with its investments into South Africa and towards building ICT skills in the country. In the previous quarter, 24 interns have been placed across important customer projects in sectors like insurance, and the banking industry sector in the region.
Sandeep Kishore, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Zensar Technologies, commented: "At Zensar, we believe in investing in creating future technology leaders. The first steps towards achieving this milestone is to make them industry ready. Our unique skills development initiative in South Africa is a commitment towards building local talent and creating jobs for the talented youth of this region. We look forward to this programme adding more talent to the community in the future."
Harish Lala, Senior Vice-President and Head, South Africa, Zensar Technologies, said: "The South African business sector needs ICT skills, and there is a big gap in the demand and the supply of employable local talent. This is where our skills development initiative contributes in bridging the gap. The programme is not just about developing local talent, but more importantly, is about creating employment opportunity and making an impact on the local community. We are proud to have placed more than 400 interns so far in live projects."
Programme details
Zensar launched the Graduate Training & Learnership Program (GTP), in line with its investments into South Africa and its focus on building local skills in the countries it operates in, and the South African initiative started in Johannesburg in 2009. This programme charter was to identify and train graduate students, especially from the PDI community, and to collaborate with Zensar's customers to jointly create employment for these graduates, thereby making skills development and employment creation a viable and sustainable model, enhancing ICT skills in South Africa, and most importantly, making an impact on participants' growth.
This programme involves sending a batch of approximately 30 graduates, for a period of three to six months, for training in India. They emerge from the programme significantly more employable. In this endeavour, Zensar has further collaborated with Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) to improve industry readiness of TUT's students while still at university, and give them an opportunity to work in an industry-like environment under expert guidance.
The second quarter batch from 2017 completed six months of detailed training at Zensar's India training facilities, and received specialised hands-on experiences in skills like software quality assurance (manual and automated software testing), Web application development and robotics technologies, and a set of soft skills. This was followed with on-the-job training, projects and assignments. Students who completed the internship programme in October have started delivering value to customers by engaging with them on various initiatives.
