Wireless accreditation sets BTG free

Bytes Technology Group (BTG) has announced that it has received wireless specialisation accreditation on the new Cisco channel programme, launched earlier this year.

Cisco has given all its channel partners a year to move from the old channel programme to the new initiative. While partner status used to be determined by skill levels, the new programme takes skills as a standard and focuses predominantly on specialisation and customer satisfaction. The specialisations currently offered include wireless, security, IP telephony, network management and voice access.

"We chose the wireless specialisation as it is a technology that is strongly emerging in both the SME and enterprise markets," says Patrick Hastings, operations director at BTG. "Wireless technology allows organisations to move into industries that now require real-time information access, especially vertical markets such as manufacturing and retail. We are seeing an increasing focus on mobility to enhance efficiency, and high availability to improve productivity, which wireless provides," says Hastings.

BTG took approximately three months to fulfil a number of requirements to qualify for the wireless specialisation. The requirements for wireless specialisation include training, Cisco Certified Networking Associate (CCNA) and Cisco Certified Design Associate (CCDA) skills, proficiency in the Cisco Aironet wireless solutions, as well as committing to a certain amount of laboratory equipment.

"Achieving the wireless specialisation allows BTG to address new market demands and adds credibility with its customers and prospective clients," says Steve Midgley, regional sales manager at Cisco Systems Southern Africa. "The company can now be recognised as a specialist able to offer services other than traditional networking solutions. BTG has demonstrated commitment to both its clients, as well as to its own organisation by investing heavily in staff training and increasing its level of skills."
