IT Wise, a leading value added distributor based in South Africa, with a particular focus on the rapidly expanding thin client market, today announced the latter`s virtualisation strategy for the Windows environment.
As part of the Dynamic Desktop Initiative led by Citrix Systems, VXL believes that by streaming both operating system and applications to the virtual desktop, burdens on IT support are significantly reduced. Dynamic desktops provide the best TCO, security, performance and flexibility, allowing businesses to thrive in a dynamic world.
VXL is one of the first thin client manufacturers to receive Citrix Ready verification on their desktop appliances and have designed a range of models designed specifically for the Citrix application delivery infrastructure.
Organisations running Citrix Presentation Server can now deliver applications to Itona end-users via either client-side or server-side application virtualisation. When using client-side application virtualisation, applications can be packaged using Citrix application packaging or by use of Macrovision AdminStudio.
Following joint development with Citrix, VXL has also created an `instant-on` capability in the Itona range to further improve the user experience. `Instant-on` means that when the VXL desktop appliance is switched on it immediately connects to a Citrix XenDesktop, allowing the user to have full desktop experience instantly.
"Desktop virtualisation offers a way to extend the proven benefits of virtualisation to the full desktop," commented Eric Grayson, VP Americas, VXL Instruments.
"The VXL range of Itona desktop thin clients, all designated Citrix Ready, help companies extend these benefits, along with easier manageability, lower power consumption and VXL`s unique 'instant-on` capability to the desktop access device."
