VW chooses Peregrine for global e-procurement

Johannesburg, 19 Jan 2001

Peregrine Systems has been chosen by Volkswagen, the fourth largest automotive supplier in the world, to provide an electronic catalogue solution for the company`s global e-procurement system.

The Peregrine-powered solution - which will be implemented for the entire Volkswagen Group, including Audi, Skoda and Seat - comprises catalogue software, content management services and search engine capabilities. "Peregrine`s catalogue services will help Volkswagen post catalogues, aggregate data from its entire trading community and then manage that data for posting in its global e-procurement system," says Klaus Osterloh, manager of B2B-Project Catalogue Purchasing at Volkswagen. "We are excited about our new Peregrine-powered catalogue solution and content services.

Peregrine will help us move our purchasing to the next level of e-procurement, and it will ensure the integrity of our data. In e-procurement, if you can`t find precise items within a catalogue, you can`t close a purchase, nor can you reap the full benefit from e-trading on the Net."

Volkswagen suppliers send their data to the Peregrine Get2Connect.net e-commerce portal where the information is transformed, validated and consolidated. The converted data is subsequently sent to Volkswagen. The Gatekeeper tool provided by Peregrine enables the purchasing department at Volkswagen to verify and proofread the data sent by the suppliers. After individual items are either accepted or rejected, they are sent to the internal catalogue to be used for optimal searches.

Get2Connect can be implemented in traditional mode, where it is licensed from Peregrine or its distributors, or in the new application service provision (ASP) model, where the software is hosted offsite and paid for on a pay-per-use basis.

"As trading communities move towards e-procurement, we`re seeing greater demand for content management," says Allen Lewis, Peregrine GM at sole local distributor CCH Enterprise Solutions. "This is an important piece of the e-procurement puzzle and it takes a proven methodology to get it done. Catalogue content is a fundamental necessity to realising true efficiencies."

CCH has made the Get2Connect offering available in the South African market, both in standard licensing and ASP models, and will soon be announcing its first successes.
