During its Explore Europe event in Barcelona this week, VMware introduced a next-generation SD-WAN solution, which includes a new SD-WAN Client. It aims to help enterprises 'optimally deliver applications, data, and services regardless of where they reside'.
According to Sanjay Uppal, senior VP and GM, service provider and edge at VMware, in order to stay competitive, enterprises in every industry are transforming their applications, adopting multi-cloud and SaaS, and enabling users to access these applications from the office, home or anywhere.
Similarly, companies that adopt cloud, workforce, and application transformation initiatives need to move from a centralised to a distributed IT model.
If they rely on approaches to networking, security, and operations alone, they will face challenges such as inefficient cloud or SaaS access, poor application quality, compromised security, outdated remote access VPN connectivity, and operational complexities and expenses, Uppal explains.
“We’ve evolved VMware SD-WAN to meet enterprises’ requirements in support of distributed data, users, and applications,” he says.
The new VMware SD-WAN Client will enable enterprises to provide consistent security and ubiquitous and reliable connectivity to users and devices everywhere, he adds.
Cloud-native by design, VMware SD-WAN, and VMware SASE allow organisations to bring edge compute and networking together for application transformation, while delivering consistent security and optimal connectivity for the branch and distributed workforces, Uppal says.
The platform features a single management interface that leverages artificial intelligence to simplify operations. New features and capabilities support three areas of transformation, namely cloud, workforce, and application.
