The Universal Services and Access Agency of South Africa (USAASA) is providing basic technology training to data capturers from all clinics within Emalahleni Municipality, Eastern Cape today. This is part of the broadband project the agency piloted in the municipality.
Through this project, the agency connected 30 clinics on the network and linked them with the local hospital. In addition, USAASA is providing tablets for use by healthcare practitioners as a contribution towards the provision of better healthcare system.
In this municipality, clinics and hospitals did not have basic technology to ensure faster and quality healthcare provision to the needy. In most instances, patients had to wait for hours in queues while administrators were looking for their medical records.
Through this USAASA-sponsored project, medical records are kept online. This makes the admission of patients faster and more effective. In addition, there is a direct online communication between clinic and hospital, which reduces risk of losing medical history while patients are being transported from clinics to hospitals.
The training of data capturers is intended at ensuring maximum usage of the system. This project was necessitated by the reality that most people residing in rural communities have never before had an encounter with technology.
The agency will continue to work with the Department of Health to bring about better healthcare to all people of this country.
NDP in action through the roll-out of broadband infrastructure. USAASA does not theorise, but delivers!
