Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey is set to visit some African countries, including SA, next month.

During his month-long visit, Dorsey is set to engage with entrepreneurs on the continent.

Using the Twitter platform to make the announcement last week, he said: “Headed to Africa for all of November! Ethiopia, Ghana, Nigeria and South Africa. Going to spend a lot of time with entrepreneurs, including @betelhem_dessie @noelkudu @GETNETASEFFA!”

Born in November 1976, Dorsey is an American computer programmer and Internet entrepreneur who is co-founder and CEO of Twitter, and founder and CEO of Square, a mobile payments company.

As of the first quarter of 2019, Twitter averaged 330 million monthly active users, a decline from its all-time high of 336 million in the first quarter of 2018.

According to Bloomberg, Dorsey’s net worth is $4.9 billion.

Among the entrepreneurs the Twitter CEO will engage with is Betelhem Dessie, an Ethiopian Web and mobile technologies developer.

Dessie is a founder and CEO of iCog-Anyone Can Code. She owns four patented projects individually and an additional three in collaboration. Betelhem has been named “the youngest pioneer in Ethiopia’s fast-emerging tech scene” by CNN.

Dorsey did not indicate which South African entrepreneurs he will meet when he descends on the country.

Nonetheless, South Africans were excited about the imminent trip, with one saying: “@jack will you visit us @addynamo in South Africa? #LoveWhereYouWork.”

Said another: “Check out the South African farming industry, you'll love it.”

“Great stuff Jack. While you are in South Africa please look me up, l have a few concepts that may be of great interest. Looking forward to your visit, enjoy,” another one tweeted.

In 2016, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg undertook his first visit to Africa when he made stops in Nigeria and Kenya.
