Trend Micro issues security warning

Attacks targeted at data centres and virtualised environments could represent the next vanguard of threats states V3.co.uk.

That is if cyber criminals begin to shift their attention away from the increasingly well-secured desktop, according to security experts. According to the publication, Trend Micro's CTO Raimund Genes says, despite the many benefits of cloud computing, the back-end virtual infrastructures of many clouds are potentially at risk.

"If the desktop becomes more difficult to attack, they will focus on the data centre," he says. "VMware has done a good job with security, but is it 100% flawless? The same is true with other providers. It's something we need to be aware of."

NHS completes virtualisation project

A north London health authority has completed a major virtualisation project, cutting its operating costs and reducing carbon emissions, reveals Network World.

NHS Brent has virtualised 90% of its physical servers, removing 36 machines from its data centre, and, as well as saving money, it says it has improved its storage facilities.

The authority has been working with Atlanta Technology on the virtualisation project, which has entailed the use of VMware throughout.

Symantec reveals virtualisation strategy

Symantec has revealed the Single Instance Security virtualisation strategy, and the optimisation of its endpoint and messaging security, and endpoint management solutions for virtual environments, reports eChannel Line.

"Single Instance Security is our new driving vision for how security should be applied in virtual environments," says Jim Waggoner, director of Product Management at Symantec.

Waggoner says the company's strategy addresses some of the problems which have developed in virtual environments as the technology has become much more widely adopted.
