Calls for entries have been made to this year`s prestigious Technology Top 100 (TT100) competition. The TT100 is a respected awards programme that identifies and rewards companies which use technology and innovation to make their operations more competitive. It is open to small businesses as well as to large enterprises.
Professor Roy Marcus, chairman of the TT100, said the definition of technology includes any way of doing something better or more effectively, it could be a product, system or process in which no hard artefact is involved and it would still be technology.
"In particular, we are looking for organisations that are developing new technology or using existing technology in innovative ways."
Professor Marcus said the annual awards process has revealed many winners whose management and innovation are world-class. He said an encouraging trend shown in the awards adjudication process in the past two years was that companies were developing technologies that were particularly relevant in the SA context.
"That is very exciting because it is harnessing innovative abilities and is a far cry from the times when all we seemed to have done was copy products through reverse engineering. We now see the emergence of companies that are really original and that is very important," said Marcus.
