The Innovation Hub - the innovation agency of the Gauteng province - will attend and showcase technological companies at the Gauteng Technology Innovation Conference.
The event is hosted by the Gauteng provincial government, at Gallagher Convention Centre, in Johannesburg, on 1 and 2 February 2018.
The conference will bring together ICT experts and decision-makers from across the public and private sectors and from academia, to engage the wave of digital and technological innovation that is sweeping across the South African economy. Future plans will be shared, while identifying areas of collaboration and direct investment by both the public and private sectors, within the framework of the Transformation, Modernisation, and Re-industrialisation (TMR) programmes set forth by Premier David Makhura.
In 2014, the fifth administration of government in Gauteng, led by Makhura, initiated and committed to radically transform, modernise and re-industrialise the province. The primary objective of the programme is to transform Gauteng into an integrated city region, characterised by social cohesion and economic inclusion.
Of township modernisation and revitalisation - 10 pillars, the conference will engage delegates on the advantage of ICT in the modernisation and improvement of public service delivery, a theme echoed by pillar six of the TMR strategy. Moreover, The Innovation Hub, the agency responsible for innovation in the province, will participate in the conference, and represent the conference theme: "Innovation in South Africa", which is one of the three pillars to be addressed during the course of the two-day conference.
Twenty-five of The Innovation Hub's entrepreneurs in smart industries, bio-economy and eKasiLabs will exhibit their various technologies so as to highlight the work of The Innovation Hub in advancing economic commitment and support of innovative entrepreneurship in the Gauteng province.
The summit will be attended by over 1 000 public and private sector stakeholders, including all Gauteng provincial government departments; national departments, agencies and entities, municipal and local government departments, agencies and entities, state-owned enterprises, SITA and SETAs; and private sector ICT industry suppliers, SMEs, ICT entrepreneurs and township-based digital entrepreneurs.
