One of the attractions returning to the AfricaCom conference next week is the AHUB, a space to connect tech start-ups with VCs, funds and angel investors.
Working in collaboration with corporates and accelerators, the AHUB aims to highlight the critical role entrepreneurship plays in driving the African digital economy.
Tech entrepreneurs are invited to visit the AHUB for free, where they can take part in the Startup and Investor Meeting Service, learn how the investor community thinks and what they want to see from start-ups.
The AHUB is also an opportunity for investors to meet market-ready start-ups and explore the African tech ecosystem.
AHUB will be chaired by Zachariah George, co-founder and chief investment officer of Startupbootcamp Africa, part of the Startupbootcamp global accelerator programme.
“This is one of the largest conferences in Africa so you’re going to see companies from all over the continent, all in one place,” says George. “But what makes AHUB so exciting is that they’re very selective in who they allow to come to the conference.”
In order to qualify for AHUB, start-ups are required to be an African tech start-up that is less than five years old that has proven traction and an original solution to offer.
AHUB Pitch & Win 2019
The five solutions that have been selected to pitch at AHUB’s Pitch & Win, in partnership with GSMA, are:
Greenfingers Mobile (South Africa) - a mobile platform that uses real-time data analytics to manage and reduce the cost of smallholding farming.
MiMi Money (Uganda) - a crypto-currency wallet using blockchain technology to help reduce the high costs of remittances in Africa.
One Kiosk (Nigeria) - an e-commerce platform that facilitates the delivery of goods by its Onekiosk Pro delivery network to a buyer within a certain radius, using AI, GPS and machine learning.
Rainmaker (Namibia) - a travel solution that connects tourism and hospitality businesses in Namibia and southern Africa through its Vista Destination Network Open Platform and Ecosystem.
WiPo (South Africa) - supplies wireless industrial solutions for drones, electric forklifts and factory robots, allowing the wireless charging of high-powered industry tech.

Other streams within the hub to look forward to include a presentation by Herman Singh, CEO of Future Advisory, titled: "When David and Goliath collaborate: successful start-up and corporate partnerships".
There will also be an AHUB Takeover presentation featuring female entrepreneurs who have launched and scaled up their tech start-ups in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The AHUB will run from 12-14 November at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. The Pitch & Win champions will be announced on the 14th.
