Following the successful introduction of e-billing last year for corporate and large business customers, Telkom has now launched a similar service for residential and small business customers.
The initiative marks a departure from the traditional paper-driven consumer bill presentment and payment process. Introducing the new Online Bill service, Telkom`s Managing Executive for Consumer Markets, Thami Magazi, says Telkom Online Bill is a free offering aimed at residential and small business customers with less than 10 accounts.
"Online Bill allows our customers control and better management of their account as well as control over the timing and payment. Transactions will take place in a secure and reliable environment, and customers have the convenience of viewing their communications bill at any time without any of the delays associated with the traditional process," he said.
Customers will receive an automatic e-mail notification when monthly accounts are available. Online Bill offers extensive billing information and bills are accessible for review 24 hours a day.
To access the service, first-time users need to enrol on http://www.telkom.co.za/onlinebill. On successful enrolment, residential customers may register their telephone accounts for online access. Business customers requesting online account access will be validated by Telkom`s Customer Services before access is activated.
"The new system offers many value-added options," explains Magazi. "The account can be electronically analysed by sorting calls in various categories, reviewing which calls were the most expensive and which numbers were dialled the most frequently. It is also possible to view the previous three months` accounts. This provides customers with an interactive tool to manage their communications expenditure better."
Secure payment is offered via the Online Bill Web site by using a valid credit card, or through the Internet banking process offered by the customer`s own bank.
