VERITAS Software has announced that StorageTek has selected VERITAS NetBackup as the primary backup solution to integrate with its internal storage systems, covering more than 250 servers and 20 terabytes of data.
VERITAS NetBackup will be combined with StorageTek`s tape storage and open SAN (storage area network) integration hardware. The resulting solution frees the Local Area Network (LAN) from backup traffic, thus allowing for StorageTek, as well as any customer using this tested and marketed (as StorageTek LANfree Backup with VERITAS NetBackup) solution, to maximise the value of existing tape resources by pooling them among servers. The complete solution with VERITAS NetBackup, one of several VERITAS Software SAN-enabled products providing end-to-end storage, will operate across the UNIX, Windows NT and Linux platforms, backing up mission-critical Oracle and SAP systems, as well as providing application support for Microsoft Exchange.
Extending upon the two companies` established business and development partnership, in which StorageTek is one of VERITAS Software`s premier product resellers, this agreement to use VERITAS NetBackup as the standard for StorageTek`s internal backup software underscores the benefits of the StorageTek LANfree with VERITAS NetBackup solution.
"We reviewed different backup strategies for more than nine months and found VERITAS NetBackup to be the best fit for our environment," says Don Manuell, vice president and chief information officer, StorageTek. "The full set of capabilities in VERITAS NetBackup, combined with StorageTek`s LANfree hardware, including fibre 9840 tape drives and the StorageNet 6000 SAN controller, gave us the solution we were looking for to manage our diverse environments."
"By selecting VERITAS Software as its preferred provider of enterprise-class backup software, internally, StorageTek is sending a strong message to our joint customers that we value each other`s respective products on more than just a business level," says Nick van Noordwyk, regional manager, Middle East and Africa.
