SSA beats JD Edwards for Mazda deal

Johannesburg, 17 Apr 1998

SSA Automotive has won contracts from one of Mazda Cars Limited (MCL) group`s leading UK Automotive Aftermarket and Supply Chain Logistics operations, Autoflow Ltd. Autoflow has purchased 24 products from the BPCS Client/Server Product line across Supply Chain Management and Financials as well as the recently announced Aftermarket Product. The total solution will run on a new IBM AS/400e, the configuration and contracts for which are being finalised. The total contract value will be over $1,7 million for BPCS Client/Server, services and hardware. In addition, SSA Automotive has won a contract with world-leading re-moulded tyre manufacturer, Technic Limited, worth over $530 000. Autoflow, which is based in Tunbridge Wells and employs over 400 people, supplies automotive spare parts to the Mazda and Kia franchised dealer networks as well as non-automotive spare parts for Brown and White Electrical Goods manufacturers. As its existing bespoke system could not accommodate the increasing pressures being put on its business, Autoflow needed a solution which would support its ongoing needs. Autoflow recognised that the flexibility of the killer enterprise technology of BPCS Client/Server was the solution to enhance its business processes, and the functional fit of the SSA Aftermarket product was far better than anything else on the market. SSA Automotive with BPCS Client/Server and IBM won over competition from SAP, JD Edwards, JBA and PeopleSoft. After a final head-to-head battle with JD Edwards, Autoflow selected SSA Automotive because of: * SSA`s FASTResults programme which has been proven to help clients go live with BPCS Client/Server in as little as three months; * The most comprehensive functionality delivered by BPCS Client/Server and the Aftermarket product for distributors of automotive spare parts across the globe; * SSA Automotive`s understanding and renowned expertise within the automotive industry; * The "total solution" offered by the IBM AS/400e Advanced Series and the technology of the 64-bit RISC microprocessor. The solution for Technic comprises of 30 products from the BPCS Client/Server product line across Financials, Manufacturing and Supply Chain Management and will be run on a new IBM AS/400e Model 2165. Technic, which manufactures re-moulded tyres for the automotive industry, is based in Burton-on-Trent in Staffordshire and has a turnover of oe40 million. Its customer portfolio consists of franchised and independent car dealers, garages, specialist distributors, retail outlets and the major branded tyre manufacturers. Technic`s existing system, a PC-based network, could no longer handle the increasing demands on the business. As a result of this, Technic looked at numerous solutions including; Baan, Tetra Chameleon, Tropos and BPCS Client/Server. Its hardware selection was a choice between Digital and IBM. Technic selected SSA Automotive, IBM and BPCS Client/Server over all of these solutions because of: * The functionality provided by BPCS Client/Server from SSA Automotive; * The flexibility and re-configurability of BPCS Client/Server to meet their automotive business requirements now and into the future; * SSA Automotive`s understanding and renowned expertise within the automotive industry.
