Square One Power Solutions, the UPS specialist in the JSE-listed Square One Solutions Group, has received an order from electrical contractor Farradays to supply 130 uninterruptible power supply (UPS) units for installation at Score Stores located throughout South Africa, Botswana and Swaziland.
A retail chain within the Pick 'n Pay group, Score Stores is installing the uninterruptible power supply systems to ensure that tills, bar code readers and computers at individual stores remain operational until such time as a standby diesel generator set takes up the load in the event of a mains power failure. The units also protect sensitive electronic equipment against power fluctuations such as spikes and sags.
Installation of the QP5000 UPS units, each rated at 5kVA, began in March and the roll-out of five units a week is due to continue until the end of August. Designed and manufactured in South Africa to meet local conditions, Square One Power's QP5000 range offers a design based on a combination of advanced techniques, simplicity, minimal components, quality manufacturing and rigorous testing to ensure the highest possible degree of stability and reliability.
The units have single-phase input and output and the basic design ensures that output remains controlled within very close limits with low output distortion, According to Square One Power Solutions managing director Neil Burnard, the QP5000 achieves a high input power factor of typically 0.97 and high system efficiency of typically 95%. "Their ability to cope with the harshness of South African conditions in terms of heat, dust and in the coastal area, high humidity, is another advantage."
Farradays staff conducting the installation and commissioning of the units at Score Stores have received training from Square One Power technicians.
