Tracking time and attendance of a large staff complement in a major manufacturing environment can be a challenge without the right systems in place.
World-class leather seat cover manufacturer, Aunde South Africa, has installed a state of the art time and attendance, access control and building management system in its new 20 000sq m factory in Umbogintwini, Durban.
The solution, installed and implemented by Q Data DynamiQue, a competency of Business Connexion, comprises Impronet access control hardware and software and Timekeeper time and attendance software.
"In designing the new plant we wanted to implement a comprehensive system for security, access control and time and attendance," says Aunde IT Manager, Craig Dennis. "Time and attendance is particularly important for us because nearly half of our 1 500 staff are contractors."
Aunde manufactures leather seat covers for BMW South Africa, and for export to BMW Germany, and Holden and Mitsubishi in Australia. It is part of the German Achter und Ebels textile and seat manufacturing group with 73 plants in 29 countries.
"The whole plant is secured into zones and we also have remote access management of our textile plant in Rossburgh, north of Durban. A critical element of the overall system is payroll data.
"Permanent staff time and attendance data is simply extracted and uploaded to the payroll. The clocking information is easily extracted to a text file and e-mailed to our labour brokers.
"It has simplified our lives and also eliminated any disputes over attendance."
In selecting the Q Data DynamiQue tender, Dennis says: "We wanted a single supplier for the overall solution. They knew what we wanted, have excellent products and a major plus is that the hardware is locally manufactured."
TimeKeeper is a full-featured time and attendance application from Lavie Timetech of Israel.
"TimeKeeper has been designed to support open-ended connectivity for both input and output," says Q Data DynamiQue, divisional manager, Rob Bothma. "Its flexible rule-based architecture allows for easy customisation to output data to any payroll or financial tracking application. Timekeeper collects, analyses and monitors labour distribution and activity-based project information."
"The software allows both supervisory and senior management to monitor labour information as a job, project or product moves through the company. Both time and cost elements are tracked with each associated aspect of production."
The iBrowse module is an employee and supervisor-oriented "gateway" to the TimeKeeper database. It allows users to review, edit, add and report on attendance and absence or any activity-based costing information via the Internet or company intranet, allowing for employees in remote sites to be monitored.
"ImproNet is produced and manufactured in SA by Impro Technologies in Pinetown. It comprises both hardware access control and software, and the architecture is completely open and easily integrated with Timekeeper."
Business Connexion`s Q Data DynamiQue Competency is one of Africa`s largest providers of total human resource management solutions to companies and organisations which need to analyse their workforces while managing their human capital.
