Softline's Canadian subsidiary, BusinessVision, has been recognised as the market leader in both the United States and Canadian mid-range (SME) accounting software markets.

In an annual independent survey, published in March 2001, by US-based K2 Enterprises and Accounting Research Incorporated, BusinessVision's flagship product, BusinessVision 32, was rated ahead of its nearest rivals - Accpac Small Business Series, Peachtree Complete, Sage BusinessWorks Gold - in terms of flexibility, performance and e-commerce integration.

K2 Enterprises' research is well recognised by the American Institute for Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). Each year the company publishes a book called the Top Ten Accounting Software Products, which is utilised as a key reference by dealers and end users throughout the US. BusinessVision 32 will be featured in this influential publication which is scheduled for release in April 2001.

118 accounting software programs qualified for the survey. However, in order to be included in the final report, an accounting product had to receive at least 25 ratings. Only 32 programs were successful.

The objective of the 2001 Accounting Software Survey, was to determine the level of satisfaction and functionality of accounting software programs that are in wide use today. The survey reflects the opinions of a total of 2, 449 respondents from a significant cross-section of the accounting and consulting community, primarily from the US, including 11 foreign countries.

The survey was divided into several sections focusing on the following factors: stability, performance, flexibility, ease of use, feature set, reporting, integration with Microsoft Office, e-commerce, third party software and technical support.

As one survey respondent said, BusinessVision 32 is "well packaged, well documented, well designed, well supported - just an overall great product and a great company to work with!"

In August 2000, Softline entered the Canadian accounting software market by acquiring BusinessVision, immediately establishing Softline as one of the leading accounting software vendors in the Canadian market. BusinessVision's installed user base, established channel and brand, as well as robust technology were integral to Softline's strategy. BusinessVision fits within the Softline group's objective to become a dominant global player in the SME and midrange accounting software market.
