Siemag Tecberg's project management matures with PPO

For more than two years, leading international specialist in mine hoisting technology and infrastructure, Siemag Tecberg, has been using a software as a service (SaaS) project management solution, Post Vision Technology's Project Portfolio Office (PPO), to successfully monitor its projects in a transparent and effective manner. The implementation was completed by PPO partner, Malachite Business Solutions.

“Our project team works on projects that can take from three months to two years before completion, meaning that team members are out of the office for weeks, even months at a time. We therefore require an easy to use project management solution that provides management and every member of our team a clear view of operational tasks, and their statuses - even when the project manager is not available. PPO has met our requirements and enabled us to actively focus on project delivery,” says John Grundeling, commercial manager at Siemag Tecberg's South African office.

At the hub of Siemag Tecberg's successful project delivery is a fully integrated enterprise resource planning (ERP), project portfolio office and payroll solution that supports the complexity of its project and job costing requirements, managed by both the financial team and the geographically-distributed project managers.

To achieve this integration, Siemag Tecberg held joint application design (JAD) sessions in order to review and optimise its business processes, which included the implementation and migration from its legacy ERP VIP Payroll application to Pastel Evolution, its Alchemex Business Intelligence (BI) Reporting to Pastel BI Reports and the real-time integration between PPO and Pastel Evolution.

“The real-time integration between PPO - a Web-based, enterprise capable application, which is designed, developed and supported in South Africa - and Pastel Evolution, was a first between these two applications, clearly illustrating our tool's flexibility and its capability to assist organisations from a number of industries to manage projects and portfolios,” says Guy Jelley, CEO of local project management software provider, Post Vision Technology.

According to Jelley, because users can access the PPO tool from anywhere via the Web, it is the ideal solution for Siemag Tecberg's remotely located business unit managers, project managers and project staff. “All resources can now achieve better visibility of the operational issues influencing their projects,” he adds.

Grudeling says by meeting Siemag Tecberg's objectives of excellent project communication, progress and status reporting for its management and project teams, the PPO tool has assisted the organisation to achieve its desired maturity with regards to the management of its projects.

“In addition, the solution has enabled the management team to recognise challenges in advance and to proactively deal with these,” Grundeling states. “For this reason, the company plans to streamline even more information by further integrating the PPO tool into its ERP system.”
