Server glitch knocks iPhone orders
Verizon's Web site encountered sporadic outages after it acknowledged pre-orders of Apple's iPhone device, reports Seedol.com.
According to an AppleInsider reader, when he tried to access Verizon's section for pre-orders on Tuesday, he saw a message saying Safari could not open the page because the server had encountered an unexpected drop of connection.
The site, he added, also explained that the event happens sometimes when the server is busy. Aside from that particular person, there are some other users who also reported not being able to access the carrier's site on Tuesday.
All set for MultiPoint Server
Microsoft has revealed its release plans for its forthcoming Windows MultiPoint Server 2011 shared computing product, notes MCP Mag.
The product, which is geared for classrooms, labs and libraries, will be available through Microsoft's volume licensing channels in March. It can also be purchased from various original equipment manufacturers in the second quarter of this year.
Organisations using the earlier 2010 product with Software Assurance licensing in place will have upgrade rights to the 2011 product when it is released, the software giant said. Those buying the 2010 product with Software Assurance will also have those same upgrade rights, according Microsoft.
Hospital computer server hacked
Kadlec Regional Medical Centre officials are notifying patients that one of the hospital's computer servers containing brain scan and other patient studies was hacked in September, reveals Tri City Herald.
Files housed on the server included information including a patient's name, birth date, age, gender, medical record number and doctor's name, but did not include any patient's financial information, address, social security number or insurance data.
Kadlec officials first discovered the unauthorised access during routine monitoring of computer network backups on 11 November, according to a news release.
