Senior citizens get online training

Jobs and grandchildren are the major reasons older people are turning to the Internet, says The Pilot.

But first, they must learn how to find their way through the intricacies of the Internet and Web sites. "It's like an 'aha' moment when they first connect," says Ann Danzy, coach coordinator, for a new computer training programme for older and/or low-income residents of Moore County.

Generations-on-Line, a senior aid programme, is teaching older people how to go online, a vital tool for anyone, regardless of age, to find jobs these days.

Online curriculum boosts healthcare

New research shows that a Web-based curriculum can improve students' knowledge of healthcare business concepts and principles, reveals Massagemag.com.

According to a report published in the December issue of the Journal of the American College of Surgeons, surgery residents improved their knowledge of healthcare business concepts and principles with the use of a Web-based curriculum.

According to a press release from the Journal of the American College of Surgeons, residents feel they lack instruction and feel ill prepared in practice management and the business of health care.

Companies jostle for Navy contract

Information technology services provider Computer Science Corporation (CSC) says it is one of eight companies that will compete for training business with the US Navy, notes Bloomberg.

The Falls Church company says it will compete to provide maintenance support, instruction, training device changes and other training support services for Navy and non-Navy customers around the world.

The overall training contract runs for five years with a total estimated value of $900 million for all the firms involved, CSC said in a statement.
