One of SA's largest wine producers and exporters, Omnia Wines, has selected Space Age Technologies (SAT) as its trusted IT partner to ensure a smooth network integration and provide it with infrastructure security, management and support.
Omnia Wines was established after the merger of Vinfruco and Stellenbosch Vineyards in the last quarter of 2004. The companies decided to combine forces in order to further entrench their influence in the wine industry and sought to partner with a recognised, experienced and reliable IT provider.
SAT provided management and support services to both companies prior to the merger and according to Hermann B"ohmer, CEO of the old Stellenbosch Vineyards and the new entity, SAT has truly proven itself as an industry leader dedicated to service levels and professionalism.
"One major objective for us was to reduce the total cost of ownership. SAT understands our business requirements and based on our history with them, there was no doubt in my mind SAT would provide us with the absolute best service and commitment," says B"ohmer.
"We had a mere four days, of which only one was a business day, to merge the two different entities into a single 80-user environment, while in the process consolidating all existing functionality, enhancing the network backbone and upgrading software components to the newest versions," says Mathias T"olken, Director for SAT. "Thorough planning, long hours and especially amazing teamwork enabled us to accomplish this seemingly insurmountable task."
According to Ian Haynes, financial director at Omnia Wines, the installation exceeded the company's expectations. "We are delighted with SAT's work, they delivered exactly what they promised and with less interruption than what we had anticipated."
Since around-the-clock reliability and availability of critical IT systems as well as fast resolution times of any detected problems are required at Omnia Wines, SAT's Remote Server Monitoring Solution SATAware was deployed to all servers immediately following the migration.
"With this system, potential problems relating to hardware and/or software are transmitted to the SAT data centre 24 hours a day for research and classification. Only if real problems are detected, will a support request be opened. This ensures false and trivial alerts at inconvenient times are avoided, while serious alerts are responded to immediately," says T"olken.
"As winemakers, we don't always understand IT jargon, but have complete trust in SAT to provide us with a working and affordable solution that will truly be to the company's benefit," concluded B"ohmer.
