SAS in top 10 firms in Chartis RiskTech 100

By SAS Institute
Johannesburg, 13 Mar 2007

In a recent RiskTech 100 study conducted by Chartis Research into risk management, SAS Institute was rated second among the top firms, with a total score of 68%.

The RiskTech 100 2006 survey is the first from Chartis to present an overall market assessment of the top vendors in the risk management space.

Assessment criteria for the study consisted of five equally weighted categories: functionality, core technology, organisational strength, customer satisfaction and market presence.

SAS came out in front by an impressive 16% from its nearest competitors in the core technology category, a fact attributed to the organisation's strong products in the data management, risk analytics and reporting arenas. For functionality, SAS was placed third, while it came in at number seven for customer satisfaction, eight for organisational strength and ninth for market presence.

According to the research, SAS has established a strong leadership position in both its credit risk management software for the retail banking sector and for its operational risk management software, coming in ahead of its competitors for both market share potential and completeness of offering.

Says Andr'e Zitzke, Solutions Specialist at SAS South Africa: "While we have been recognised specifically for our strength in credit risk and operational risk, our offering is not limited to these, and encompasses market risk, fraud, anti-money laundering, actuarial risk and energy risk, all of which have been contributing factors to our success."

The report states SAS's key strengths as its credit scoring solution and its "superior data management and risk analytics capabilities", which provide the ability for SAS to offer a true end-to-end solution.

Concludes Zitzke: "It is gratifying to know what we are doing right at SAS, and knowing what our users think we can do better gives us all something to work towards and improve upon. We are looking forward to seeing the results from the next study, where we expect to do even better."
