The enterprise software providers have partnered to co-innovate and change how users access critical business information.

The two companies say they are collaborating to deliver the new SAP Business Suite software to various mobile devices by integrating it with Sybase's mobile enterprise application platform.

Together, SAP and Sybase will enable enterprise software users worldwide access to secure, full-featured business applications on the go. This will extend workforce productivity outside of the office, by allowing employees to make informative and timely business decisions, anytime and anyplace, on a wide range of mobile devices, the companies say.

Through the partnership, they note, users will have access to critical customer data in both connected and disconnected modes right from their mobile device of choice, by utilising Sybase's business process mobilisation technology.

Says John Chen, chairman, CEO and president of Sybase: “Today's wireless consumers are provided with extensive features and functionality surrounding interaction, collaboration and information accessibility. To effectively carry this rich experience over to the enterprise, an open, standardised platform approach is required for interfacing between multiple application and device assets. Our partnership with SAP combines its widely used business applications with our mobile middleware platform, bringing us one step closer to realising our vision of the unwired enterprise.”

Chen says Sybase will work together with SAP to simplify the delivery of enterprise applications to mobile devices. This will speed up roll-out and reduce end-user training for sales representatives and service personnel. “Mobile workers will now have the tools they need to take immediate action on routine operational tasks, regardless of their location, increasing the overall productivity of their organisation, improving efficiencies and controlling costs,” he adds.

Alan Cowley, CEO of Sybase SA, says: “After having had local discussions around the benefits of the integration of SAP's Business Suite with Sybase's mobile infrastructure, we are pleased to see that this has been formalised and this brings to South African companies the solution for unwiring SAP business applications.”

Systems integrator, T-Systems, will work with Sybase to connect the mobile workforce with SAP's solution.
