Most international electronic records management authorities (including the National Archives and Records Service of South Africa - NARS) base their acceptance of records management systems on compliance to two international standards, namely:
* "The National Archive" (TNA) in the UK
* The US Department of Defence standard DoD 5015.2-STD
The SAP Records Management application received full accreditation in 2005 from "The National Archives" in the UK - one of only 10 electronic records management systems to hold this accreditation.
SAP announced on 29 January 2007 that SAP Records Management has now also been certified as compliant with the US Department of Defence standard DoD 5015.2-STD. This certification validates that SAP Records Management delivers the integrated business processes and records management best practices required by DoD agencies to deliver increased visibility and transparency across enterprise operations. The US National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) endorses the DoD 5015.2-STD.
Carl Wilcocks of NokusaEI, the leading expert in South Africa on the SAP Records Management system, says: "Being certified as compliant to the leading British and American Records Management standards proves that the SAP Records Management system is a leading product in the world. This is particularly relevant to government agencies and companies using SAP as ERP system, as the SAP Records Management system is able to capture and store business transaction data in addition to documents, and so encapsulate complete records - something very few other records management systems are capable of."
The availability of the SAP Records Management system in South Africa is a major boost for government agencies and companies that are compelled to store and preserve critical records.
