SAA extends PegaSys services from Fujitsu

To satisfy its operational demands, South African Airways (SAA) migrated to the PegaSys application platform from Fujitsu Services in 2005.

After four years of using PegaSys, SAA has reaffirmed its commitment to the Fujitsu PegaSys Solution for its planning, operations control and crew management. Currently, SAA makes use of the Fujitsu PegaSys product in the areas of:

* Schedule planning an operations control
* Crew planning, rostering and tracking
* Maintenance planning

Mike Re, SAA CIO, stated: “We have had a long-term relationship with Fujitsu, where they have an intimate understanding of our business; and PegaSys, through its integrated architecture and continually enhanced functionality, is well positioned to support our operational environment moving forward.”

“SAA and other airlines are facing a global shift with regards to the ever-changing operational demands that are being placed on them,” says Thierry Goor, business solutions manager at Fujitsu Services. “This, together with the increasing global awareness of South Africa due to the upcoming 2010 Soccer World Cup, has made it imperative for SAA to ensure it maintains the optimal service levels at all times. PegaSys will assist them in achieving this goal.”

An experienced team of Fujitsu professionals with many years of airline and systems know-how delivers the solution. The Fujitsu Airlines team has performed work at a number of major airline sites worldwide, creating and maintaining flight schedules, resourcing the schedule with aircraft and crew with real-time tracking of the aircraft and crew events.

In total, PegaSys includes 16 user modules, including Schedule Planning, Code Share Management, Crew Planning, Maintenance Check Scheduling, Schedule Publication, Crew Pairing, Crew Rostering (including all associated crew activities), Crew Tracking, Operations Control and Crew Training.

SAA

SAA celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2009 and is one of the oldest airlines in the world. The airline was founded on 1 February 1934 after the South African government took over the assets and liabilities of Union Airways, which up until then operated as an airmail service. It was named South African Airways and fell under the administration of the South African Railways and Harbours.

SAA is one of the leading carriers in Africa offering over 20 destinations across the continent, as well as major destinations within South Africa, including its hub, Johannesburg.

It is a member of the largest and most recognised international airline network, Star Alliance, and through this is able to offer its passengers a service beyond its own direct operations as well as numerous benefits to customers.

SAA operates one of the most technologically advanced aircraft fleets in the world and offers an exclusive and highly rated product. SAA's priority is to ensure the safety of its passengers and crew and therefore places immense focus on maintenance of its aircraft.
