Red Brick announces support for Impromptu 5

Johannesburg, 29 Jun 1998

Red Brick Systems has announced support for Cognos Impromptu 5.0, a major upgrade to Cognos`s core query and reporting product. Impromptu 5.0 provides more power for report authors. The product now offers the ability to create systems of reports geared to enterprise reporting applications, with a combination of sub-reports and report-to-report drill-through.

Impromptu 5.0 leverages the data warehousing functionality available to Red Brick DecisionScape customers and partners. DecisionScape, an integrated environment of products, services, methodology and partnerships for decision support, includes Red Brick`s RISQL functionality which extends industry-standard SQL to enable complex analysis of the detail data in Red Brick Warehouse.

Accurate results are returned quickly without reducing query complexity or sacrificing performance. Business analysts using Impromptu 5.0 and Red Brick DecisionScape products now have the advantage of a flexible query and reporting environment that accesses the most detailed data in small, highly complex to enterprise-wide data warehouses.

"Cognos has been recognised for its strong leadership in the business intelligence tools market," says John Reid, senior director of Business Development at Red Brick. "The added features and functionality in Impromptu 5.0 represent continued support for data warehousing customers who demand a market window for competitive advantage. This can only be accomplished through quick, accurate responses to complex queries of their corporate data. Cognos`s ability to extend Red Brick`s strengths is a natural fit to the Red Brick DecisionScape environment, and helps in the delivery of successful decision support solutions for our customers and partners."

"Companies want to work with leaders who partner to deliver complete, best-of-breed solutions," says Paul Hill, VP, Strategic Alliances and Business Development at Cognos.

"Our inclusion in Red Brick DecisionScape delivers value to data warehousing customers. Red Brick`s support for our new version of Impromptu is an endorsement of the product`s strengths."

Red Brick is represented in South Africa by Software Futures, a company in the Computer Configurations Holdings group.
