The North West Provincial Legislature completed the very first Oracle eBusiness Suite release 12 implementation in South Africa. The total solution encompassed human capital management, payroll, finance and procurement components.
As an independent institution, the need was identified for the Legislature to replace the legacy of Provincial Persal and Walker solutions. In the quest to find a suitable solution, the Legislature considered a number of enterprise management solutions.
At the project launch, the client sponsor, Dr Baba Schalk, Secretary to the North West Provincial Legislature, likened the solution to the typical African scenario of visiting "the Oracle" when difficult decisions needs to be made. The Oracle will provide the information and wisdom to support such difficult decision-making processes.
The new system offers an integrated solution, which offers the Legislature advantages in both management reporting capabilities and integrated back-office operations. It also offers higher degrees of economies of scale and increased resource productivity. The Legislature places a high premium on a robust system that supports very high levels of operational governance.
The system has recently gone live and is still in the stabilisation phase, where users familiarise themselves thoroughly with the new solution. Very tight governance structures and operational transparency has already been achieved.
Every "oracle" requires a prophesy
Midrand-based special services company, New Dawn Prophesy Business Solutions, was engaged by the North West Provincial Legislature to implement an Oracle eBusiness Suite Solution.
Prophesy holds a proven referenceable track record in the implementation of similar solutions at SITA, Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, Parliament of South Africa, University of the North West and Coega Development Corporation. The experience gained in these implementations assisted the project team to ensure minimal disruption and a smooth transition to the newly implemented solution, comments Louis van Wyk - Executive: Public Sector at Prophesy.
Prophesy believes the project team`s vision in naming the project "Mphatlalatsane" (The morning star that ushers in the new dawn) has been realised, and that this system will continue to render excellent service to the Legislature over many years to come.
