Pocket-lint Gadget Awards announced

This year's hottest gadgets have been announced at the 6th Vodafone Pocket-lint Gadget Awards, letting consumers know exactly what the best gadgets, gizmos and tech were in 2009, writes Pocket-lint.

The votes cast by over 50 experts from tech and mainstream publications like Engadget, Gizmodo, Wired, Sky News, and many more from around the world, combined with a public vote, show the products that have won are best in their class.

Best Music Gadget 2009 saw tough competition between the Sonos S5 ZonePlayer and the latest iPod touch from Apple, but Apple nudged out in the public vote and took the prize. The Best Game 2009 title goes to the hugely popular Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, while 'Best Digital Camera' is the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1.

Gizmos break Xmas sales records

Retailers are gearing up for a record Christmas result on the strength of the nation's obsession with gadgets and retro toys, says Australian IT.

"This year, it was a little bit slower at the start, given shoppers didn't have that cash injection, says Scott Driscoll, national executive director of the Retailers Association. "But with what we're starting to see in terms of electrical and toy sales, things are very, very positive now.”

Hot gift items this year, electrical gadgets and gizmos such as big-screen televisions and Apple's iPod and iPhone, may be what cause last year's record $25 billion in Christmas sales to be topped.

Gadgets track fitness

These days, a range of gadgets can help boost people's workouts, says ABC News.

Technology can now track individuals' exercise progress, count calories and more. Fitness enthusiasts may appreciate these fitness gadget updates in time for Christmas.

One example is an update to the Garmin Forerunner 305, which keeps track of how far and how fast one has run. But GPS signals don't travel well in water, so readings aren't too good while swimming, says ABC News.
