Packaging giant standardises on Softworx's Infor ERP for new division

Multimillion-rand roll-out of Infor ERP BaanIV under way, go-live planned for August.

Softworx, an EOH company and Infor reseller, is proud to announce a multimillion-rand deal with Afripack, one of the largest independent packaging suppliers in South Africa, for the roll-out of Infor ERP BaanIV to Afripack's newly acquired Consumer Flexibles division.

Afripack regards the current implementation as part of the strategy to standardise on the enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution throughout the organisation and to align the business for future upgrades.

“We are very pleased to continue supporting Afripack's growing operation,” says Jane Thomson, MD of Softworx. “As with all our clients, we are putting in the maximum effort to ensure they are a satisfied Infor ERP BaanIV user.”

The Afripack Consumer Flexibles division - which consists of five business units - was bought by Afripack in 2009. After evaluating its ERP requirements, the Afripack Group decided to implement a suitably integrated system to achieve its business objectives. An exercise was undertaken to determine the current practices and define the needs of the organisation, both from a strategic, management and an operational perspective.

The resulting requirements were then evaluated against the current system adopted by the acquired entity, and BaanIV. The solution chosen to implement was Afripack's core ERP system, Infor ERP BaanIV.

The project to implement Infor ERP BaanIV at Afripack Consumer Flexibles got under way in May, with the first phase already completed to budget and within estimated timeframes. Go-live is planned for August this year. This will ensure the new system is in place prior to the group year-end in September.

Softworx and Afripack Consumer Flexibles have also concluded a maintenance agreement, and a service level agreement is in place.

“We've been thoroughly impressed by Softworx throughout the project,” says Nicki Maclean, business analyst at Afripack Consumer Flexibles. “Their manufacturing knowledge and service levels are superb. They also took great care to understand and analyse our needs for the system and walked us through every process so we knew what to expect,” she adds.

Afripack first became a Baan customer in 1997. The original Afripack implementation was for 48 concurrent Infor ERP Baan IV users and involved the implementation of Infor ERP Baan IV financials, sales, purchasing and inventory control, as well as projects and product configurator functionality.
