Communications minister Dina Pule has appointed non-executive directors to the South African Post Office (SAPO) and Sentech boards.

The minister made the announcement yesterday and said Cabinet had approved the appointments for a three-year term with effect from the beginning of this month.

Six new board members, including chairman George Mothema, have been appointed to SAPO, while four non-executive directors have been appointed to Sentech's board.

The Sentech board is welcoming four new members to replace those who had vacated their positions. A statement by the department indicates that Pule has given the Sentech board time to “gel” before appointing a chairperson.

“The appointments are in line with minister Pule's commitment to acting with speed to stabilise the top leadership of the state-owned companies that report to the Department of Communications,” says the statement.

Pule also thanked the outgoing board members for their contribution to the entities they served.
