The challenges related to the quick and easy mounting of network switches - and resolving associated cabling tangles - are now met with Netgear's new 'click switch' solution.
This is according to Tobie van Schalkwyk, business development manager at Netgear distributor Duxbury Networking, who says Netgear's innovative 1-2-3-4 'click' mounting system simplifies the mounting of its 8-port and 16-port ProSAFE Click Switches targeted at small office and home users.
"Importantly, the new system permits the switches to be mounted anywhere they are needed," he says. "Netgear has 're-imagined' the network switch to make it easy to site network ports exactly where users require them. This helps support the growing use of wired connections in the home and small office."
Referring to the 'connected home', Van Schalkwyk says there are usually a variety of networked devices using wired connections for applications such as fast gaming, uninterrupted entertainment or storage backup.
"In addition, the home network may support multiple computers, network attached storage, Blu-ray players, smart TVs and gaming consoles. These devices need an intelligent switch to separate and prioritise traffic. Unfortunately, each device can contribute to an ugly tangle of cords and cables."
To address this problem, Netgear has equipped its new ProSAFE Click Switch with an inventive bracket mounting system. Available in various Gigabit port configurations, the switch's slim design - incorporating an internal power supply - is geared to help users to better organise wires, secure cables, eliminate bulky power adapters and improve the overall appearance of wiring cabinets as well as training facilities, lab benches and conference rooms.
"The click mounting system enables optimal placement and cable management in locations where other switches will not go," explains Van Schalkwyk. "Users simply attach the switch bracket to a wall, under a table or even to a pole and 'click' the switch into it."
The bracket offers both vertical and horizontal orientations so that the ports can face either outwards or sideways, creating four mounting options: Vertical/side mount; vertical/rear mount; horizontal/side mount; and horizontal/rear mount.
"In addition, the bracket is designed to work with cable ties, Velcro fasteners, straps, screws and most other mounting systems, facilitating an almost unlimited number of placement options. The Click Switch cable strap can also collect the usual spaghetti mess of cables and attach them neatly to the bracket or to the wall," he notes.
Netgear's Click Switches offer the same intelligent management features associated with Netgear ProSAFE Gigabit Plus Switches, such as monitoring, traffic prioritisation, port trunking, cable testing and VLAN support.
"As an added bonus, the 8-port version is equipped with two USB ports for quick and easy charging of tablets, smartphones and other devices," adds Van Schalkwyk.
