Netgear, Milestone pool 40 years of experience to develop new 'business-grade' surveillance system

Johannesburg, 11 Sep 2017

A new scalable, integrated video surveillance system, combining the expertise and know-how of two of the world's leading vendors, is now available from Duxbury Networking.

Netgear, the networking specialist, and Milestone Systems, a video recorder and management software vendor - both acknowledged experts in their fields - have combined their more than 40 years of networking and surveillance software experience in the design and development of the recently launched Milestone Arcus on Netgear ReadyNAS solution.

Targeted at users with wide-ranging video surveillance demands, the solution employs embedded Arcus VMS (Virtual Memory System) software from Milestone, running as an 'app' on Netgear's ReadyNAS network storage platform.

"It is a most scalable solution, offering sufficient storage capacity for thousands of ONVIF (Open Network Video Interface Forum) wired and wireless HD video cameras," says Tobie van Schalkwyk, Business Development Manager at Duxbury Networking, the local Netgear distributor.

"The solution can be expanded in terms of coverage with the easy addition of Netgear POE (power over Ethernet) switches, while the management of several surveillance sites is possible with multiple ReadyNAS video servers," he explains.

Van Schalkwyk notes the solution, which is underpinned by hybrid remote network attached storage and cloud backup, provides high levels of data retention supported by five levels of protection against physical, mechanical, virus/malware, human and system-level errors and integrity challenges.

"The full ReadyNAS feature set - including data backup, file sharing and data protection - is also incorporated," he adds.

Key features of the Milestone Arcus on Netgear ReadyNAS video surveillance solution include a configurable, multi-zone sensitivity motion trigger together with Web browser functionality via a simplified dashboard for video management, live view and time-stamped archive playback.

In addition, recording schedules, with e-mail notifications, may be pre-set, while remote system access and video viewing functions are available, together with video capture and 'push' to storage facilities. There are also multiple ReadyNAS hardware platforms to choose from - from two to 60 bays, desktop or rackmount.
