MultiChoice, a premier television entertainment provider to more than 1.2 million subscribers, has selected Microsoft Business Scorecard Manager to automate the process of capturing and managing performance metrics across the organisation. Microsoft Gold Certified partner, IS Partners, was responsible for implementation of the solution at corporate level as well as across all MultiChoice divisions in South Africa.
Having selected the balanced scorecard (BSC) approach to align the whole organisation to the corporate strategy, MultiChoice needed a powerful executive decision-making tool that would make it as simple as possible to ensure results from key performance measures that had been identified. The solution had to offer executive management an easy way of viewing and resolving exceptions while also eliminating the burden of manual processes.
"Our scorecard methodology determined the choice of Microsoft Business Scorecard Manager as our management tool. It dovetails neatly into the BSC approach, effectively turning a `working document` into a measurable strategy," says Charmaine Smith, Strategy Execution and Knowledge Management at MultiChoice.
"Microsoft BSM gives us the ability to, for example, manage the effectiveness of any strategy moving forward, track metrics and dynamically alter the strategy against current performance. Our entire BI environment also runs on the Microsoft SQL platform, which further ensures easy integration into the existing BI environment as well as seamless communication between the various BI systems."
Smith says any scorecard approach that relies on manual entries is difficult to sustain long-term. "Once you know what you want to measure, it`s necessary to implement the right tool to communicate the strategy down and automate the process. With 10 divisions, this can be a challenge.
"Microsoft BSM ensures top executives get a pictorial view of their information, making the administrative component of key performance metrics manageable and, thus, sustainable," she says.
