Diamond specialist and jewellery designer, manufacturer and retailer Browns The Diamond Store has contracted branded business and technology solutions provider and implementer Lorge to supply, install and commission a SAP Business One accounting and ERP software solution.
The central SAP Business One solution is due to go live on 1 August and will be rolled out to 18 Browns retail outlets located in major centres and tourist destinations throughout South Africa.
Eugene Olivier, director of Lorge`s SAP Business One business unit, said the branches will access the centralised SAP solution on a wide area network (WAN) through terminal servers.
"The Browns existing point-of-sale/retail system will also be replaced within the full set of SAP software that includes General Ledger, sales and debtors, procurement and creditors, inventory, materials resource planning (MRP) and customer relationship management (CRM) functionality."
Olivier added that the SAP software will track and control all elements of workshop production, replacing an existing spreadsheet solution and providing management with real-time production reporting.
Owners Larry and Gavin Brown`s grandfather arrived in South Africa during 1934 and opened his own boutique jewellery store in downtown Johannesburg. Later, as Larry and Gavin developed a love for jewellery, they too were taught the family goldsmithing techniques to ensure that the art of jewellery making would survive through the generations.
The Browns "Collections" - among them Royal Tanzanite, Heritage, Cognac, Chantilly Lace and African Skies - include unique pieces featuring natural diamonds from colourless to fancy yellow, pink and brown. Some pieces are so intricate that they require several hundred hours of highly skilled craftsmanship to complete.
