Pretoria-based Saab Grintek today donated R50 000 to the Odirile Mentally and Physically Disabled Centre in Hammanskraal for cots, beds and blankets to 80 children at the centre.
Established in 2002, the Odirile Mentally and Physically Disabled Centre caters for children suffering with severe mental and physical disabilities that live in Temba and the surrounding communities.
The objective of Saab Grintek's social investment programme is to empower people and improve their quality of life, without giving direct handouts.
"We are proud to be associated with the Odirile Mentally and Physically Disabled Centre and of the positive impact this will have on the lives of the young children," said Banele Kunene, CSI manager at Saab Grintek.
"We are impressed with the amount of dedication and personal sacrifice that is demonstrated by the staff at the institution. We are also moved by the professionalism and care that go with handling cash and property of the institution. This contribution reflects one of Saab Grintek's core values - that of Humanity, Ubuntu," continued Kunene.
Odirile Mentally and Physically Disabled Centre also receives support from the students of Pretoria University who provide assistance to the caregivers in speech and language therapy.
"We are pleased at the support we have received from Saab Grintek. We really struggle financially and we hope Saab Grintek will continue with the relationship," said Baby Maphosa, Director of the Centre.
Kunene said: "Saab Grintek will continue to support this project and we strongly believe that we are making a difference in the lives of these children and the community. Our company strives to support the development of previously disadvantage individuals and communities."
