Luxury lifestyle retailer, Harvey Nichols, has selected DigiPoS to provide an EPoS hardware solution for its flagship store in Knitsbridge, London.
Harvey Nichols is internationally renowned for its exclusive fashion merchandise offering many of the world`s most prestigious brands in women`s wear, men`s wear, accessories, beauty, food and home.
The Harvey Nichols estate has seen rapid growth in the last few years and relatively quickly has had to go from a single store mentality to a point where there are stores across the country.
DigiPoS was selected to provide a cost effective solution that would help improve efficiency and shop floor functionality, as well as cut maintenance costs.
"In Retail Blade, DigiPoS was able to provide us with a well-respected, cost effective solution to updating our EpoS," says Martin Schofield, head of IT at Harvey Nichols. "These factors, coupled with the obvious benefits Retail Blade offers in terms of flexibility and ROI, and our strong, established relationship with RTC, DigiPoS Systems` services division, meant our decision to award the contract to DigiPoS Systems was a very logical one."
The DigiPoS Retail Blade system, which Harvey Nichols has implemented, consists of the Retail Blade Host, a passive backplane which houses all the POS connectivity and the Retail Blade, a replaceable motherboard and hard drive which slide in and out of the host, enabling unrivalled speeds for upgrades, repair or maintenance.
The implementation went smoothly. "It`s the smoothest implementation I`ve come across," says Schofield.
To date, Retail Blade has been very well received, according to Schofield. Sales transactions are now passed on in real time and the new solution has enabled far more information to be made available at till point, allowing far quicker and more efficient assessment of stock availability and position. Till operators have found the new, space-saving touch screens intuitive and easy to use, and the printers to be significantly quicker allowing for much faster transaction times.
"The point of sale upgrade was part of a larger project to upgrade `the basics`," says Schofield. This included a switch from its existing warehousing and merchandising system to a new solution, and a relocation of its distribution centre from Greenford in Middlesex to Northampton.
The POS upgrade has made Harvey Nichol`s expansion easier. It plans to open a new store in Dublin this year as it will now be able to handle multiple currencies.
