Letlhaka Technologies, in association with SI partner DCS Telecoms, deployed an FTTH (fibre to the home) network at Legacy's latest luxury hotel and suites, the Da Vinci at Nelson Mandela Square, in Sandton, South Africa.
This is Legacy's fourth hotel on the cosmopolitan square in the heart of the Sandton business and leisure district. The prestigious hotel offers 166 rooms and 54 suites and recently served as base for VIPs from FIFA for the 2010 World Cup.
The turnkey FTTH network deployed at the Da Vinci offers high-speed Internet, voice and television signals over fibre-optic to each room, with WiFi access points conveniently located inside each room and suite. The unique solution features remote provisioning and monitoring, allowing DCS Telecoms and Letlhaka Technologies to manage the customer's network requirements up to the room without having a technical team on-site.
“The fibre-optic network in the Da Vinci acts as the backbone for the seamless delivery of WiFi, satellite television, telephone services, administration network, point of sale and IP-CCTV security system, and as such represents a low operating cost to the hotel,” says Roberto Rosa, general manager of the Da Vinci. “The network is also IPTV ready, which will mean minimal upgrades in order to comply with the new service as and when it is introduced.”
Letlhaka Technologies is a turnkey last mile FTTx access network solution provider in southern Africa. The company focuses on providing end-to-end network solutions that are well-integrated and supported to service providers. DCS Telecoms is a network infrastructure company specialising in the installation and testing of physical network infrastructure in southern Africa.
“For the Da Vinci hotel project, we chose Letlhaka for their extensive experience in the deployment of turnkey last mile access networks to deliver triple-play services,” says DCS Telecoms director Craig Granville Roberts.
For the Da Vinci project, Letlhaka technologies used its CPE range from Tilgin, and GE-PON network from CTDI-Alloptic. Says Corne van der Merwe, MD of Letlhaka “The Tilgin and CTDI-Alloptic products represent reliability, manageability, and cost-effectiveness - requirements which are key in delivering a fibre-optic access network with low cost of ownership.”
