Lady Gaga dazzles CES
Polaroid, with its new creative director Lady Gaga, unveiled a new range of products at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, says PSFK.com.
The Gray Label line consists of gadgets that use Polaroid's Zink (zero ink) printing technology to capture or print images.
Stepping out of their portable camera realm, the company unveiled its picture-taking sunglasses, the GL20, that captures as well as displays images and video on its lenses. It can also send images to a printer via Bluetooth.
Digital printers pose security threats
Printers and copiers are often overlooked as a potential source of a data security breach but they need to be handled just as carefully as a PC, reports Ontrack Data Recovery.
According to Larry Kovnat, product security manager for Xerox, many printers have a hard drive, just like computers, which stores data for every copy the machine has ever made.
"The important thing to remember is these devices are digital, like PCs ... the reasons why they wouldn't just throw out a PC, they have to treat copiers the same way," he told Amednews.com.
He advised that a data destruction function that wipes or scrambles the information is usually present on most machines and there are companies available that specialise in the area.
New molecular imaging tech developed
A group of researchers at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid have designed and developed a biomedical scanner that detects cellular processes at the molecular level and indicates malfunctioning of an organ before said malfunction can produce an anatomical change, notes Nanowerk.
The work carried out by these scientists has ranged from the initial design of an electronic architecture for gamma ray detectors to industry transfer of a complete scanner, after having adequately validated a prototype through experimental studies at the Gregorio Mara~n'on Hospital.
The electronic technology equipment designed by the researchers - which is in patent process - is based on molecular imaging, a type of biomedical imaging capable of detecting live cellular processes.
