Jonsson Workwear, a workwear manufacturer headquartered in Durban, has selected Dimension Data to migrate from a traditional private automatic branch exchange (PABX) telephone system to an enterprise-wide Cisco Internet Protocol telephony (IPT) solution.
The deal, valued at R200 000 per annum over five years, will enable its geographically dispersed sites to enhance communication capabilities and improve business efficiencies.
"Connectivity between our different sites is the primary driver that led us to implement an enterprise-wide IPT solution. The ability for remote employees to have instant access to company information enables our company to be more connected and in so doing, collaborate more efficiently," says Nick Jonsson, CEO, Jonsson Workwear.
Jonsson Workwear`s PABX system proved difficult to maintain and manage. Whenever a telephony move, addition or change had to be made, Jonsson Workwear had to log a service call with its supplier in order to make the necessary change. This was not only costly, but often resulted in prolonged waiting periods. As employees are constantly moving around in the company, the need for a flexible telephony system to allow for such changes became critical.
"The ability to have full control over our telephony infrastructure is a further driver that led us to adopt an IPT solution. Having an integrated voice and data network and a single supplier that manages and maintains it, allows for greater cost savings, accountability and control," says Justin Fortmann, IT manager, Jonsson Workwear.
The IPT solution comprises a combination of wired and wireless IP telephones. Employees who are required to be on the factory floor are now able to be in constant communication with colleagues, customers and suppliers. Jonsson Workwear has furthermore been able to utilise its existing leased line connections between its head office in Durban and branches to substantially reduce inter-branch call charges.
Employees have adopted the IPT solution with enthusiasm. Travelling employees are furthermore able to access company information from any site, and are able to work wirelessly from anywhere. Feature-rich applications - such as integrated voice, e-mail, fax and video messages - allow for an enhanced user experience.
"Jonsson`s investment in IPT is justified by the cost savings realised on its inter-branch telephony charges and reduced maintenance, management and equipment costs. The robust communication solution also provides Jonsson Workwear with a scaleable solution that is able to grow with its business requirements," says Jay Reddy, managing director, Dimension Data in KwaZulu-Natal.
