Integr8 IT, South Africa's largest privately-owned national BEE ICT network integration and infrastructure management specialist, in association with Volvo Trucks, has committed itself to the roll-out of ICT infrastructure in support of the Star for Life initiative.
The initiative, previously known as Star School, is a non-profit organisation established in 2005 with the aim of educating the youth and serving as a collective effort to curb the onslaught of the HIV/ Aids pandemic in South Africa and neighbouring states.
Based in Kwa-Zulu Natal, the Star for Life project covers 62 schools and involves over 62 000 high school students and 1 200 teachers in both urban and rural areas throughout the province and in Namibia.
There are various ways people can get involved in supporting the organisation. It runs a number of programmes through which external parties - individuals and companies - can contribute. This includes the option to become a school partner, a project partner or a co-founder.
As part of the company's corporate social investment, Integr8 IT and its client Volvo Trucks, combined resources in a joint project to provide 14 PCs as the front line for on-site training for learners at the organisation's computer laboratory.
Robert Sussman, CEO at Integr8 IT, said the PCs are equipped with up-to-date software and components including Windows Minitower XP Pro, 160G Sata II, DVD-writer and 1GB DDR2 667 memory capacity, including top of the range processor technology.
“As a company we believe wholeheartedly in education as a primary means of engaging the youth and addressing critical socio-economic issues. This cannot happen without technology and we, as a young, vibrant and growing commercial enterprise in South Africa, have a vested interest in empowering the youth of this country to embrace the future and firmly entrench the power of this nation on a global scale,” says Sussman.
