The Department of Communications raised almost R400 000 from players in the ICT sector to celebrate minister Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri's budget vote in the National Assembly.
The department has told Parliament that the total amount spent on the function was R395 315.06.
Of this, R10 000 was spent on the undisclosed venue and R86 000 was spent on food and refreshments. However, entertainment for the 350 invited guests took up the majority of the bill.
The entertainment cost sponsors R213 807.06 with a further R85 508 spent on transportation for the entertainers. The details of the entertainment are unknown at this stage.
Responding to a question put forward by advocate Paul Swart, of the Democratic Alliance, Matsepe-Casaburri revealed the event was sponsored by industry players.
"Yes, a function was organised to mark the occasion of the delivery of my vote in the National Assembly. The function was fully sponsored by companies within the ICT sector," she said.
The companies which sponsored the department's event are: Dimension Data, Vodacom, Cell C, MTN, GijimaAST, ForgeAhead, Microsoft, Business Connexion, Neotel, Multichoice and Nokia Siemens Networks.
