Imperial Car Rental`s online booking has gone live on February 19, and in support of its new initiative, the company is offering a 50 percent discount to the first 100 qualifying customers to book via

.
Imperial is confident it will see significant savings as a result of the additional functionality on its Web site, according to Dawn Jones, MD of Imperial Car Rental. "With conventional telephonic reservation methods, it costs us approximately R12,50, per booking. However, using the Web, those costs are reduced to virtually zero."
As IBM`s only certified e-business business partner, at the time, Imperial selected Vesta Technologies to develop and implement this online booking subsystem. Magda Morrison, MD of Vesta Technologies, says the company made use of IBM`s Host Publisher to transform the formerly static site into a functional e-business application.
"We were able to integrate the new functionality into Imperial`s existing backend system, thereby protecting the company`s mainframe investment," adds Morrison.
Although targeted initially at Imperial`s corporate business, Jones is confident that it will also appeal to private individuals. "Imperial has always operated on a business model that is customer-centric, this has not changed.
"By allowing our customers to book online we are simply providing a more efficient service to our clients," concludes Jones.
